Things to Know:

​

REGISTRATION:  Registration will begin at 6:30pm at the parking lot of the MCCH Regional Cancer  Center.  Look for the registration tables!  Registration deadline is March 1.  Late registration will be accepted after March 1; however, those registering after the cut-off date will not receive a t-shirt. â€‹

​

CHOOSE A THEME!!  We encourage each team to add to the fun by choosing a theme! Some ideas are:  Peace Out, Cancer (Wear tie dye and other 60s themed clothing,); Too Tough to Tackle (Wear football-themed clothing and gear.); The Walking Village (Dress like the Village People.); For Those We Love (Wear red/pink/hearts.); Bold in Blue/Pink Power/Orange Crush or other cancer-specific colored names (Wear the color!).  These are just some examples.  Themes are not required, but strongly encouraged!

GLOW WANDS:  Every registered participant will be given a glow wand to carry along the route in order to to us shine light in the darkness.

​

GLOW JEWELRY:  Fun glow jewelry will be distributed.  Feel free to bring your own as well.  This will not only help us to light the night, but will also provide safety.

​

WALKING ROUTE:  At 7:30 pm, we will begin walking south to Vine Street.  We will follow Vine Street to S. 10th St.  We will make a loop through S. 10th and head back to the Cancer Center for food and fun! 

​

REGISTRATION FEE:  The fee for a single walker is $25.  Family & Corporate Teams (up to 10 people) will be asked to contribute $250.  Family & Corporate Teams with 11-15 people will be asked to contribute $350.  Teams of 16-20 will be asked to contribute $450.  Teams with more than 20 members will be asked to sign up as separate teams.  All walkers registering by March 1 will receive a Be the Light event t-shirt.  Registrations will be accepted after March 1, however these walkers will not receive the free t-shirt.

FUNDRAISERS:  There will be no onsite fundraisers for walkers/teams; however, fundraisers to cover the cost of your registration fees (or even exceed that amount!) are encouraged!  Journey Bags will be recruiting Event Sponsors; therefore, if you choose to ask a business to sponsor you, please be sure they realize that they are sponsoring YOUR TEAM and not the event as a whole.  Event sponsors will be added to this page as they are secured.

​

LUMINARIES:  Luminaries can be purchased for $10 each in memory of or in honor of a loved one.  These luminaries will be placed at the Cancer to light our way as we complete our walk.

CLOSING CEREMONY:  After walking, a closing ceremony will be held where all those whose names appear on luminaries will be read. â€‹â€‹

At Journey Bags, our goal is to add some light to the darkness that comes with any cancer diagnosis. 

Our 2025 Walk featured 450 walkers, 200 luminaries, and raised $16,674 for cancer patients!
