Our 2026 Sponsorship Campaign is being called “FIGHT LIKE A BOSS!” in honor of local childhood cancer warrior, Lucy Boss. Journey Bags Board Member Nate Boss, Lucy’s dad, said, “When Lucy was diagnosed with leukemia at just five years old, our world turned upside down. In the middle of so much fear and uncertainty, her Journey Bag, which was delivered while we were in the hospital shortly after we got the news, brought comfort and light. The coloring books and blanket became part of our hospital routine, but it was the bald Barbie that meant the most. It showed Lucy that she wasn’t alone and that beauty, strength, and bravery come in all forms. That simple gesture made her feel seen and included during the hardest time in her young life.” A cancer journey is definitely a time of instability and isolation. A Journey Bag helps its recipient to know that they are not alone–that their community loves them, is there for them, and cares about what they are going through.

One of Journey Bags’ goals is to add light to the darkness that comes with any cancer diagnosis. Be the Light is an awareness walk that 

will take place at the Murray Calloway County Regional Cancer Center. This year’s walking route will be a little different as we will loop around so that we both begin and end at the Cancer Center. We have plans to expand this event, adding food trucks, games for kids, and more! At this event, you’ll hear from Nate and Alecia Boss, parents of Lucy Boss, this year’s featured cancer warrior. The tentative date for this event is April 17.

 

As always, luminaries in honor and in memory of cancer warriors will light a path. Luminaries will be sold for $5 each.

 

In its two years of existence, this event has already grown to include hundreds of walkers from our community. As it is a night walk, we join together in this walk to shine a light on cancer.

A Taste of Tuscany is a new event that is being launched in September 2025. Journey Bags is partnering with Stephano’s Trattoria to bring this exclusive event to Murray. Donors will purchase a ticket to secure their seat for a gourmet Italian meal at Stephano’s. A live auction of event tickets, vacation packages, and Tuscany-themed offerings will be held.

​Journey Bags has again been chosen by Title Sponsor, Growing Wild, to be the recipient of funds raised at the Main Street Mile. This event is an annual Run/Walk for all ages and ability levels that takes place on the 4th of July in conjunction with Murray’s Freedomfest.

Journey Bags offers its bags to local patients free of charge.  Those who wish to cover the cost of a bag for a specific person may request a bag in our shop.  If you'd like to sponsor a bag or give any amount, the best way to do that is by clicking on the pink DONATE button on your screen.  However, you may also mail a check to the address below or support us by purchasing from our Amazon wish list.
